Zhuli Hess

Zhuli Hess (朱俐), Senior Manager, Global Strategy-China Program, Environmental Defense Fund

Zhuli Hess is a senior manager of China Program, Global Strategy at EDF. Her expertise is in strategic planning and execution for International environmental programs, International operation and communications, policy analysis on China’s environmental governance specifically the country’s market-based mechanism application – China’s National Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) – to tackle climate change challenges, etc. Her main responsibilities include day to day programmatic and operational engagement, fundraising, project management and communication between China offices and the rest of EDF globally. Prior to EDF, Zhuli was with China Beijing Environmental Exchange (CBEEX) to support Beijing’s pilot ETS design and implementation, and represented Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) to promote a sustainable financing mechanism to Agricultural, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) projects. Most recently, Zhuli was with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in the US, managing its sustainable supply chain program and promoting best practices for dozens of corporate members like Microsoft, Intel, HP, Dell, Colgate, and more. Zhuli has also consulted for Wildlife Conservation Society for assessing China’s corporate social responsibilities in Uganda and the Asia Society Policy Institute on East Asia Carbon Market Linkage Initiative. Zhuli received her M.I.B. (Master of International Business) from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and today is based in New York City.
